What I am saying is, you won’t stay a coder, though you can, if you want to. Many people go into this business with the express desire to work from home, coding for a larger coding company. These are great jobs with flexibility. You can work in this field for years and do well. Someone said that all of this coding would be automated and computerized. It’s an interesting idea, but the basis of coding is not a science, it does not have black and white edges, it’s pretty much all gray. Rules are contradictory, descriptions vague, guidance and instruction are often couched in soft language that allows for multiple interpretations. That makes computerization of coding difficult. It is also why physicians and facilities challenge government audits of their billing and consistently win. Interpretation of medical record documentation is an art and not a science because each interaction between a provider and a patient is unique to that patient. No two episodes of care are the same, though they may be similar.

The dress/top is really pretty, but I would think about breaking up the color with a softer shade, perhaps a charcoal gray with such a bright shade. The boots are cute on their own, but I wouldn’t wear them with the top. If you have black suede boots or even ankle boots with black tights would look amazing. The scarf is a bit too much for a casual office. If you want to wear it with a coat, that would work, but remove it when you get to work. Yes. The differentiation between blue collar and white collar is historical. Clerks wore white collars and shirts to work in th 1800’s. They also, in the latter part of that century, added garters on their sleeves and sleeve protectors to avoid ink stains. All of this differentiated them from farmers, cowboys, laborers, miners and factory workers. The distinction went further since white collar work was generally safer and often carried out under better conditions. Medical representatives fall between clerical/technical/professional and salesman/woman roles depending on actual work performed and thus are far closer to the traditional definition of white collar than, for example, a Sandhog who builds tunnels.

It was noted by European visitors to America in the 1800’s that lines between occupations were often more blurred here than in Europe since there were less of the occupational groups that were filled by hereditary custom. Thus, in Chicago, a meat packer in a factory would change into a suit and tie and put on a straw “boater” hat before he left work. He was now indistinguishable in dress from any other person on the street. This insurance firm doesn’t sound very professional. If they had a reasonable issue with a job applicant’s clothing, fine. Insulting them because if it is another thing. I would move on and wear your suit to the next interview.
