This was a serious problem in World War Two. Pilots and air crew did not make practice jumps in training, so bailing out meant that their first real experience with a parachute came under the highly stressful conditions of being in a doomed aircraft in the middle of combat. Though pilots were instructed to guide their failing aircraft to lower altitude before bailing out if possible, high-altitude bailouts were sometimes necessary. This could occur far above the usual altitude limits for recreational skydiving. In their limited ground training for high-altitude bailouts, trainees were warned about the danger of hypoxia. Here’s a quote from the P-51 training manual: Before bailing out at high altitudes, open the emergency knob on the oxygen regulator and fill your lungs with oxygen. Take several good breaths and hold your breath as long as possible. If you do this before a delayed free fall, you have a supply of oxygen to help you until you reach the lower altitudes.
This is another hub for getting tshirt manufacture. However unlike Gandhi Nagar Market, this is not much accessible. There are huge factories which cater to chains like Vishal magamart, Big Bazaar etc. However as per my experience with the manufacturer here, you can get tshirts manufactured by them provided you have a handsome quantity requirement. Business here are more upmarket. I’m really digging the American Apparel Tri-blend at the moment. It’s super soft but not too thin where it would show your nipples on a cold day. Translation (not in rhyming of course): there is victory beyond fear (it is a feat to travel in mumbai local trains at peak hours) and seat beyond ‘Dadar’ station (the most crowded station in Mumbai) No. You would need something far bigger to slow down. All this would do is mean that when you hit the ground and your body explodes into a million tiny bits that your shirt may be lost to the wind as you fell.
Although these instructions sound quite reasonable and simple in a classroom or training manual, they could be difficult to follow when your very first jump is an unplanned and unwilling one from a burning plane over enemy territory. In particular, air crew jumped with only one parachute. Many survivors later reported that, immediately upon exiting the aircraft, they were struck with a strong curiosity whether that one parachute would open or not. This causes several dangers. The obvious threat is hypoxia, certainly rendering the airman addled or unconscious, and even risking death for very high bailouts. Also, premature opening suspends the airman in extremely cold air for a longer time, risking hypothermia. Combining hypothermia and hypoxia is particularly bad, amplifying the danger. There are numerous accounts of pilots and crewmen rendered unconscious early in their descent, but reviving when they finally reached denser air. Hypoxia from opening a parachute too high may have contributed to the loss of a pilot in my uncle’s P-51 squadron on Christmas Day 1944 – He turned back from a mission due to a rough engine that later failed, forcing a bailout over Adriatic islands near the Croatian coast. He landed in the water and drowned. Unfortunately, more pilots were lost to flak and another engine failure on subsequent search missions.
