The latest star to use style as a medium for encouraging voting is Julianne Moore—and she did so in the I just want to drive my school bus and hang out with my dogs shirt moreover I will buy this most glamorous way possible. Today, the actor made a cameo on designer Christian Siriano’s Instagram page. In the photo, she sports one of his dresses from Siriano’s spring 2021 collection, which was shown just last month; the long-sleeved, floor-length gown is plastered with bold white lettering reading, “Vote.” In a way, the message couldn’t be any more clear or impactful—but it’s still an entirely unlikely garment to see a political statement on.
Siriano tells Vogue that he recognizes the I just want to drive my school bus and hang out with my dogs shirt moreover I will buy this influence that celebrity style has on popular culture—and that he has a duty, as a designer, to use that to his advantage for more meaningful purposes. “Being a designer, our clothes are our voice and that visual reaction is how we can get people to take notice and pay attention,” says Siriano. “Sometimes you have to put it right in front of people for awareness that then turns to action. It was important to me that this dress be on someone with a powerful voice who also believes in positive change, and Julianne encompasses it all!” Not to mention Moore gave political activism a knockout finish in the process.
