Currently, Machine Gun Kelly is a full-blown peacock when it comes to clothes and music. Still, he’s not your typical high fashion guy. Sure, he’s worn his fair share of designer clothes, but he’s not wearing hard-to-find archival items. Nor is he in the buzziest brands of the moment like SS Daley or Ernest W. Baker, or celeb-favorites like Givenchy and Louis Vuitton. He doesn’t seem like he has any intention of polishing his look in the classic sense, and instead prefers under-the-radar labels.
This high-octane closet is a far cry from what Machine Gun Kelly was wearing when he entered the music industry as a rapper in the late ’00s up through the late 2010s. In 2018, he released a video “Rap Devil”—a bonafide Eminem diss track in which he performed shirtless in simple black pants, ate cereal, and carried a shovel. In his other videos from the same time period, he’s typically in a nondescript shirt and pants. When the artist entered the pop-punk world, he started embracing the genre’s utilitarian baggy shorts and white tank look. There was nothing bright, yet. It wasn’t until his Tickets To My Downfall album that we began to see electric flickers of yellow or pink in his outfits.
Machine Gun Kelly, who is styled by Adam Ballheim, takes this daring aesthetic to extremes. After all, this is the same guy who this past week smashed a champagne flute on his face during his performance of “My Ex’s Best Friend” at an after-party. He proceeded to perform with blood dripping from his brow onto his light pink mesh shirt and pink pants. When he left the scene, he threw on a patchworked coat crafted out of nuclear-hued zebra prints. Only a few days ago, Machine Gun Kelly stepped out with his fiancé Megan Fox while wearing a Chet Lo pink and blue cropped popcorn mock neck top and low-slung white pants with a grommeted belt and a wallet chain swinging across the front. The man can dress up, too: Back in early June, he went to the Tribeca Film Festival for his film Taurus dressed in a white suit slathered in sequins. Shirtless, too! (That’s a trend this menswear season.) He accessorized the get-up with a lone blood-filled syringe earring, which recalled the vials of blood that Billy Bob Thornton and Angelina Jolie wore around their necks in the early ’00s.
