I like it because the question seems simple, and when I wrote it there were a lot of answers on the page saying “you should do it this way” or “you should do it that way”, but I didn’t feel anyone was really talking about how entangled these kinds of decisions are in the emotional aspect of the relationship, and what messages are sent between partners by their approaches to decisions like this. This is a more recent answer that I’m also really proud of; I was driven to answer it for a similar reason to the first one: Jennifer Edeburn’s answer to How do I convince my wife to terminate a Down Syndrome pregnancy? It’s not that common for me to answer a question that already has several answers in place, but there were 12 answers already when I wrote mine to that question. Yet, I didn’t feel most of them legitimately answered to the OP’s question in a way that was helpful or realistic. To be fair, I didn’t quite give an answer without challenging the premise either, but I felt my answer provided something that only one other answer at the time gave: something actionable for someone in the OP’s position to do, without making any judgment for or against the OP’s goal. I believe that there were about 500 writers in the first tranche of 2016 Top Writers (the ones announced over the winter). The stated plan called for more 2016 TWs to be announced in two more tranches over the course of the year.

I was already an established author before I started writing here with a good reader base and two successful novels behind me. I had and still have good reader engagement on Social Media. My immense knowledge on varied topics was just rusting in my mind and I thought it was better to share it and assist a few with it. I really like this one: Jennifer Edeburn’s answer to Is it right to expect both people in a relationship to pay half the rent when one makes a fair bit less? I expect my partner to pay half, but he thinks he should pay less because I make a good bit more than he does. Right now it has only two upvotes; it’s a great example of that thing that so many lament when you write what you think is a really good answer and it gets two upvotes, while something you dashed off in five minutes goes viral.

Obviously, a Quoran having 200k followers would receive at least 2k upvotes on any thing they write. While a good answer from a relatively new Quoran having say just 200 followers would get maximum 10-20 upvotes.. Had upvotes being a criteria, Quora would have been just a place for POPULAR answers and not QUALITY answers. Hence, rather than counting on your followers and upvotes, count on the quality of your answers… to get to that top writer title! “Bad answer” is a subjective call. I’m a Top Writer here, and I’ve written answers that have upset people, answers people have charged with being factually wrong, answers that people have said contained faulty logic, answers that people have said were trivial, and answers they have received very few (or no) upvotes. When I saw the top writers list, the first name I noticed that was omitted was David Urquhart. I couldn’t believe he wasn’t included.
